Good evening folks!
I just wanted to send a quick update saying that Mr. Moccia and I counted all the money you raised at the Walk-a-Thon. The grand total was just about…….
I would say that means that the fundraiser was a great success!
Thanks to everyone for walking and running!!!
On Friday, November 9, 2012 the fifth graders participated in the Third-Annual McKinley Walk-a-Thon to raise money for our end of the year activities. The weather was perfect (just like last year’s!) and the students and staff were more than ready to tackle the hour-long walk!
While students count their laps and tally their money amounts, I made a special video to commemorate the day!
Students: What was your favorite part of the Walk-a-Thon???
Hello there! I hope you all had a lovely weekend.
On Friday, the entire fifth grade class participated in the 2nd Annual McKinley Walk-a-Thon. The Walk-a-Thon is our first fundraising effort this year to raise funds for the end of the year activities. Each child had two pledges sponsor them for each lap they completed and all money raised goes directly into the grade 5 account.
The kids were super excited to get as many laps as they could complete in the hour they were given. In math class a couple of weeks ago, we estimated how many laps they thought they could do and many students quickly realized they would be walking more than they had anticipated!
From the moment they began students walked, ran, and jogged in an effort to complete as many laps as possible! The more laps they do they more money we raise!
Each time students completed a lap, a hole was punched in their name tags.
All name tags were collected Friday afternoon and the teachers worked on recording the number of laps and total money amounts for students.
I don’t have final numbers yet, but I will soon!
The day was so much fun 🙂 Smile!
We will be doing some math activities in our problem solving workshop this Wednesday to analyze the data we “collected” at the Walk-a-Thon. We will determine the maximum and minimum number of laps and money as well as the average of each per student and grand totals for the grade.
****Today students will receive their pledge sheets with their total number of laps and amount of money they raised. Students will be asked to collect their donations and return them to school by FRIDAY, OCTOBER 28th.

Today’s Walk-A-Thon was a smashing success! Did the kids tell you all about it? I especially liked the part where Mr.Moccia (and Miss Monagle too) got the ENTIRE fifth grade to sing Happy Birthday to me. That was very cool and is definitely the most people who EVER sang to me at once, by far. Actually, looking back it was pretty cool. Thanks kids!
I will be back with a full re-cap of the Walk-A-Thon, including some more information about our fundraising efforts soon. For now, sit back, relax, and enjoy the show 🙂
Now I want to hear from all of you!
What did you find most fun about the Walk-A-Thon today? Did you walk more or less laps than you estimated you would? How many laps did you walk? (Bonus points for the folks who can tell me how many miles they walked! Remember- 4 laps= 1mile)
Hopefully you have a little energy left to enjoy your Friday night
Enjoy the weekend!
